CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The Fighting Illini men's and women's track and field teams are set to host the Fighting Illini Challenge and Combined Events on Fri.-Sat. (Jan. 24-25), featuring athletes from 10 teams. Visiting teams include: Arkansas State, Eastern Illinois, Little Rock, London Western Track & Field Club, Nike/NYAC, Purdue, Southern Illinois, Western Ontario and Wisconsin.


At the Hoosier Horsepower Classic last Saturday, Jan. 18, Rose Yeboah made history by breaking the school record in the high jump, clearing 1.91m (6-3 1/4). Yeboah's performance also tied the national-leading mark for the 2025 season.


Illinois won eight events last weekend, including Tyler Sudduth, who claimed victories in both the weight throw (22.15m (72-8)) and shot put (19.47m (63-10 1/2)). Tori Thomas took first place in the pole vault (4.40m (14-5 1/4)), while Trey Sato won the mile (4:08.75), Dewayne Johnson took first for the 60m hurdles (7.81), Halle Hill secured the 800m title (2:08.23), Will Merrick won the men's 3000m (8:10.50) and Kennady Anderson won the women's 3000m (9:37.90).


Three athletes are set to make their Illini debut this weekend: Ji'eem Bullock, Malik Allen and Rafael Raap. Bullock will compete in the men's high jump, Allen will compete in the men's triple jump and Raap will compete in the heptathlon. Melissa Wullschleger and Lucie Kienast will compete in the pentathlon.
