
Yeboah Breaks High Jump School Record with National Leading Mark

INDIANAPOLIS – The Illinois men's and women's track and field teams completed the Hoosier Horsepower Classic on Saturday (Jan. 18). Rose Yeboah topped the podium in the high jump with the new school record and tied the national leading mark (1.91m (6-3 1/4)).
Abria Smith won the shot put while throwing the program's second-furthest throw, 16.49m (54-1 1/4). Cody Johnston captured the pole vault crown clearing the program's third-best mark, 5.52m (18-1 1/4), which currently ranks as the seventh-best mark in the nation.
Phethisang Makhethe won her second straight weight throw competition throwing 22.26m (73-0 1/2). Jordan Koskondy place second with the program's third-best throw (21.16m (69-5 1/4)), Olivia Campbell threw the program's sixth-best throw (18.72m (61-5)) and Faith Deering recorded the program's ninth-best throw (17.94m (58-10 1/4)).
Illinois went on to win eight more events including Tyler Sudduth who won both the weight throw (22.15m (72-8)) and shot put (19.47m (63-10 1/2)). Tori Thomas won the pole vault (4.40m (14-5 1/4)), Trey Sato won the mile (4:08.75), Dewayne Johnson won the 60 meter hurdles (7.81), Halle Hill won the 800m (2:08.23), Will Merrick won the men's 3000m (8:10.50) and Kennady Anderson won the women's 3000m (9:37.90).

The Orange and Blue track and field crews return to action at home next weekend (Jan. 24-25) for the Fighting Illini Challenge and Combined Events.
