
Rothas Vaults Fourth-Best Mark in School History

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Illinois men's and women's track and field teams finished the final day of the Larry Wieczorek Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 20. Junior Kelsey Rothas moved up to fourth in the Illinois pole vault record book with her 4.10m (13-5 1/4) mark today. She earned bronze in today's competition with this new indoor season personal-best.
Junior Tori Thomas has won the pole vault in all three of her appearances this season; today she did so with a 4.30m (14-1 1/4). Sophomore Mia Morello placed second at 4.20m (13-9 1/4).
Junior Jessica McDowell sprinted to the crown in the 400m dash (53.46), sophomore Tadeas Placek also earned silver on the men's side (47.98). Sophomore Viktor Morozov walked away a silver medalist in the triple jump, 15.29m (50-2).
Senior Will Merrick set a new personal-best mile in his second-place finish (4:06.27). Junior Darja Sopova finished fourth in the triple jump, 12.55m (41-2 1/4).
Michail Rose qualified to the 60mH finals with a personal-best (8.08). He then went on to best that in the finals (8.03) and place sixth overall. Junior Same Poglitsch placed seventh in the mile with a new personal-best (4:48.90).
UP NEXT
The Fighting Illini track and field teams are back home in Champaign next weekend for the Illini Challenge in the UI Armory on Fri.-Sat. Jan. 26-27.
