HANAHAN, S.C. – The Illinois women's golf team opened up the 2023-24 season with a 15th place finish at the Cougar Classic at Yeamans Hall Club.
Beginning the day by completing the suspended second round from Monday, the Fighting Illini carded a team total of 289 (+5) before a third round total of 288 (+4).
Erica Lee and Isabel Sy led the way for the Illini, with the duo each placing tied for 56th. Lee finished her second round at 1-under (70) before carding a third round 75 (+4). The Arcadia, Calif., native posted a team-high 41 pars, which was also the fourth-most among the field.Â
Sy went 1-over (72) in round two before firing a team-best score of 68 (-3) in the final round. The San Gabriel, Calif., native closed out the tournament by playing bogey-free golf.
Sophia Sulkar closed out her second round with a 1-over 72 before posting the same scoring in the final round to finish tied for 70th. Sulkar recorded a team-high 10 birdies during the event.
Elizabeth Beek finished tied for 74th after second and third round scores of 75 (+4) and 74 (+3), respectively. Anna Ritter finished 90th after a second round 78 (+7) and third round 74(+3).
Ole Miss took the team title with a 54-hole total of 816 (-36) while Clemson's Savannah Grewal and LSU's Ingrid Lindblad shared the individual title at 16-under (197).
The Fighting Illini will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 23, where they head to Norman, Okla., to compete in the Schooner Fall Classic.
