WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Illinois swimming and diving team completed day one of their midseason tournament, the Boilermaker Invite, on Thursday, Nov. 16. The Illini currently sit in third place with 183 points. Junior Suvana Baskar shattered the 100 backstroke school record as the leadoff to the 400 medley relay (53.90).
BETWEEN THE LANES
Junior Logan Kuehne swam the program's eight-fastest 50 freestyle in the finals tonight; she placed sixth overall with a time of 23.15.
The 200 freestyle relay team of senior Lily Olson, Kuehne, junior Molly Yetter and senior Laurel Bludgen earned third touching in 1:32.40. This time was .16 seconds away from cracking into the program's top-10.
Junior Sydney Stoll touched fourth in the 200 IM (2:01.92) followed directly by sophomore Sara Jass (2:02.34) in fifth.
Junior Paloma Canos Cervera placed 10th in the 500 freestyle with a new personal-best time (4:54.33), sophomore Adelaide Reaser followed in 11th (4:55.08).
The 400 medley relay team of Stoll, Jass, Kuehne and Olson ended day one with a ninth-place finish clocking in at 3:44.66.
A few other swimmers recorded personal-bests from day one action. Senior Lauren Beard (4:57.13) and Martina Cibulkova (5:03.77) swam new bests in the 500 freestyle. Freshman Kylee Sessions owns a new best time in the 200 IM (2:04.49). A pair of freshmen sprinted to new 50 freestyle personal-bests, Marin McAndrew (23.82) and Maggie Adler (23.92).
ON THE BOARDS
Senior Taylor Michael led the Illini divers on the three-meter boards, she placed sixth with a score of 283.55. Freshman Matilda Garcia finished inside the top-10 in ninth-place with a score of 254.35. Freshman Dani O'Kelly placed 11th (241.90) and freshman Bethany Mercer slotted in right behind her in 12th (239.20).

The Orange and Blue swimming and diving squad is back in action tomorrow, Nov. 17, for day two of the Boilermaker Invite. Prelims begin at 9:30 a.m. and finials begin at 5 p.m. CT.
