LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Illinois swim and dive team completed their first dual against Kansas on Saturday, Oct. 14. They were defeated 169-131 by the Jayhawks. Junior Sydney Stoll left the pool with three first-place finishes: the 100 backstroke (56.06), 200 backstroke (2:02.11) and finally the 200 IM (2:04.75).
BETWEEN THE LANES
The day began with the 200 medley relay where the team of: senior Laurel Bludgen, juniors Sydney Stoll and Logan Kuehne; and freshman Kylee Sessions claimed second (1:43.99). Sessions earned second in the 100 breaststroke too (1:05.43).
Sophomore Sara Jass claimed three medals in today's dual. She finished first in the 200 breaststroke (2:19.01), second in the 200 freestyle (1:54.73) and second in the 200 IM (2:05.56).
A pair of newcomers medaled in the 1000 freestyle: sophomore Adelaide Reaser in first (10:21.48) and freshman Kalina Nikolaeva in third (10:35.78). Reaser also walked away victorious in the 500 freestyle (5:05.66).
Bludgen earned second in both the 50 (24.17) and 100 freestyle (52.95). Senior Sophia Burwitz touched third in the 100 butterfly (57.03). Freshman Abby Ninan earned bronze in the 200 freestyle (2:06.25).
The 400 freestyle relay team of: senior Lily Olson, Bludgen, Sessions and Adler closed out the dual with a first-place finish (3:30.82).
ON THE BOARDS
Senior Taylor Michael scored a 293.55 to earn second on the three-meter boards followed by freshman Danielle O'Kelly in third with 284.93 points. O'Kelly placed fourth in the one-meter dive with a score of 240.00. Freshman Matilda Garcia placed fifth in both the three-meter (274.05) and one-meter (238.50).
