CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Petros Kyprianou's staff is complete with the final addition of Sarah Glidden. Glidden comes to Champaign after spending the past two seasons at Duke University. She will take on the role of jumps and combined events assistant coach at Illinois.
"Sarah is an outstanding young coach with a strong resume, she will be working with me directly in recruiting and coaching long, triple, high jumps and both combined events," said Kyprianou. "Her pedigree both as a national athlete and coach of the year in Division III, along with her experience under Shawn Wilbourn at Duke make her an ideal part of our staff. Her tremendous work ethic paired with her experiences as a heptathlete will make her an asset to our current and future teams."
Prior to Illinois, Glidden spent time at Duke on a volunteer role starting in 2020. Here she worked with the combined event athletes and lead their practices. She coached seven NCAA qualifiers (finished 2nd, 2nd, 4th, and 7th), two ACC Champions, two runner-up's and 24 conference qualifiers total. She was also part of the two team ACC Championships, 2021 outdoor and 2022 Indoor.
"I want to thank Coach Kyprianou for giving me the opportunity to work alongside him and the rest of this incredible Illini Track and Field staff," said Glidden. "His vision for the program is something I'm excited to be a part of and I'm eager to get to work. I appreciate everything I've learned from my experience at Duke University and am ready for this exciting new chapter!"
Before Duke, Glidden coached at her alma mater the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire from 2018-20 as an assistant coach. Here she coached the combined events athletes, developed training programs and organized/met with recruits. In 2019 they won the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championship title. She produced four NCAA qualifiers (finished 2nd, 3rd, 5th) and seven conference qualifiers with four Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Champions.
Glidden was a two-time NCAA Division III National Champion, the pentathlon in 2018 and the 1600m relay in 2015, a seven-time All-American and eight-time WIAC Champion at Wisconsin-Eau Claire. She owns the school record in the 1600m relay, high jump and 400m hurdles. She was also a team captain.
Post collegiately, she qualified for both USATF Indoor and Outdoor Championships in 2022. She also finished top 5 at the 2022 Thorpe Cup competing for team USA in the heptathlon.
She graduated in 2018 with her Bachelor's of Science in Kinesiology Movement Studies with a minor in Psychology.
