CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – A pair of Illinois men's and women's track and field team standouts are set to compete at the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships this week in Eugene, Ore., as graduate student Jon Davis and junior Olivia Howell each advanced to the semifinals of the 1500m event.
The Championships are set to begin on Wednesday (June 8) and run through Saturday (June 11) at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon.
Davis will kick things off with the semifinals of the men's 1500m on Wednesday at 6:46 p.m. CT, with Howell taking the track on Thursday at 7:46 p.m. CT for the women's 1500m semifinals. The men's 1500m final is set for Friday at 8:12 p.m. CT and the women's 1500m final is scheduled for Saturday at 4:41 p.m. CT.

NCAA West Prelims Recap
Continuing their success from Big Ten Championships, Davis and Howell each turned in qualifying performances in the men's and women's 1500m at the 2022 NCAA Division I Outdoor West Prelims, held at John McDonnell Field on May 25-28.
Davis placed first in his heat for an automatic qualification and finished ninth overall with a time of 3:42. 69. Howell placed third in her heat to earn an automatic qualification, while also finishing third overall in the event's quarterfinals with a time of 4:17.68.
Davis & Howell at the NCAA Championships
Davis will be making his second appearance at the NCAA Championships after previously qualifying as a freshman in 2017. The Oakwood, Ill., native finished in 16th place in the 5K to earn Second Team All-America honors with a time of 14:45.28.
Howell will be making her second-straight trip to the NCAA Championships after placing 10th in the women's 1500m a season ago. The Solon, Ohio native turned in a time of 4:15.56 to earn Second-Team All-America honors after turning in a program-best time of 4:09.71 in the event's semifinal race.
Success at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships
Howell won her second-consecutive 1500m title at the 2022 Big Ten Outdoor Championships, outlasting the opposition with a time of 4:21.75. On the men's side, Davis, who won the 1500m a season ago, finished as runner-up in a tight competition, crossing the finish line at 3:52.80.
