EUGENE, ORE. – Illinois track and field junior Olivia Howell earned Second-Team All-America accolades with a ninth-place finish in the women's 1500m final on the final day of the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday (June 11) afternoon at Hayward Field.
"Olivia made good decisions today and raced with heart," said assistant coach Sarah Haveman. "The finish is a bit of a disappointment but we are confident she will continue to grow and develop as a student athlete and perform the way she desires in these settings."
Howell registered a season-best time of 4:12.22 to place ninth in the final after finishing in fourth in Thursday's semifinal. Howell earns her second-straight Second-Team All-America honor after placing 10th in the same event at the 2021 NCAA Championships in a time of 4:15.56.
Howell becomes the first two-time Illinois women's track & field outdoor All-America honoree since Stephanie Richartz took home First-Team accolades in the pole vault in 2015 and 2013.
