Johnston, Koskondy Each Shatter Program Records at Tyson Invitational

BOSTON // CAMBRIDGE, Mass. // FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 1 women's and No. 13 men's track and field teams completed the first day of their trio of meets on Friday (Feb. 13).  Pole vaulter Cody Johnston and weight thrower Jordan Koskondy both broke the school record in their respective events.

TYSON INVITATIONAL

Johnston won the championships section of the pole vault today improving his own school record to 5.70m (18-8 1/4) on his second attempt at the height. It's now the second-straight meet he's broken the school record and he's now up to the No. 5 mark in the NCAA for 2026. His teammate, Brenden Vanderpool, wrote his name into the school's top-10 list when he had the program's fifth-best vault, 5.45m (17-10 1/2).

Koskondy broke the weight throw program record with a 23.59m (77-4 3/4) toss on her fifth attempt which is now the No. 3 mark in the NCAA for the season. Phethisang Makhethe appeared to have broken her own school record with her new personal-best 23.39m (76-9) throw on her fourth attempt. However, she will reside at No. 2 in the record book behind Koskondy. Oluwatomilayo Akintunde also joined the persona-best party as she threw the school's third-best mark at 22.06m (72-4 1/2).

On the track two middle distance runner's clocked top-five program marks as well in Grace Kombetto and Jackson Gilbert. Kombetto won the 800m with the program's third-fastest time (2:05.08) while Gilbert placed fourth in the 400m on the school's third-fastest time (45.93).

DAVID HEMERY VALENTINE INVITATIONAL

Pol Molins placed ninth in the mile run on the program's second-fastest time (3:58.48). Joshua Hoffmann placed 145th in the 800m (1:59.37) while Trey Sato placed 261st in the mile (4:20.21).

CRIMSON OPEN

Audrey Ginsberg placed fifth in the 800m (2:11.21) and Kennady Anderson placed fifth in the mile (4:53.43)

UP NEXT

The Illinois track and field teams return to action tomorrow (Feb. 14) for the conclusion of these three meets.
