TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Illinois women's golf team wrapped up action at the 2022 NCAA Tallahassee Regional on Wednesday (May 11), finishing in ninth place with a 46-over par tournament total of 910. The Illini posted a 16-over par 304 in its final day of competition at the par 72, 6,292-yard Seminole Legacy Golf Club.
"It was clearly not the ending to the season that we had envisioned," said head coach Renee Slone. "This course presented a tremendous test and exposed some areas that we need to improve upon. The week was a valuable learning experience that we can build on to jumpstart the 2022-23 season."
For the second-straight season, senior Crystal Wang paced the Illini in the NCAA Regionals as she carded her best round of the tournament with a one-under 71 and finished in a tie for 14th – her best finish at an NCAA Regional – with a five-over total of 221.
Sophomore Isabel finished in a tie for 33rd with a 12-over total of 228 after turning in a six-over 78 in her final round, while junior Siyan Chen tied for 40th with a 15-over total of 231 and posted a seven-over 79 on Wednesday.
Senior Kornkamol Sukaree registered the second-best Illini round of the day with a four-over 76 and concluded her tournament in a tie for 49th with a 17-over total of 233. Freshman Lexanne Halama then rounded out the Illini with a 57th finish in her first NCAA appearance with a 22-over 238 after posting a nine-over 81 in her final round.
Host Florida State won the regional with a four-under total of 860, while UCLA (877), South Carolina (877) and Mississippi State (891) made up the rest of the top four to advance to the NCAA Women's Golf National Championships at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz., on May 20-25. FSU's Beatrice Wallin took home individual medalist honors with a six-under par total of 210.
