JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. – The Illinois women's golf team is in fifth place after the first day of the Briar's Creek Invitational at the par 72, 6,116-yard Golf Club at Briar's Creek course. The Illini were scheduled to play 36 holes before round two was suspended due to darkness with Illinois on holes 14-17.
The Illini were tied for 13th with a 14-over par total of 302 in the opening round before moving up eight spots after going four-under in the second round and currently sit at 10-over near the end of the second round.
Sophomore Isabel Sy is tied for ninth on the individual leaderboard at even-par and is three-under with just one hole remaining in the second round after posting a three-over 75 in the first round. Joining her in the top 25 is freshman Lexanne Halama, who led the Illini with a two-over par 74 in the opening round and is tied for 23rd at three-over for the tournament and two-over through 15 holes in the second round.
Seniors Crystal Wang and Kornkamol Sukaree are both tied for 30th at four-over par, with Sukaree carding a four-over 76 to open her tournament and is even through 15 holes of the second round. Wang turned in a six-over 78 in her first round, but rebounded to sit two-under through 14 holes of the second round.
Rounding out the Illini is junior Siyan Chen, who is nine-over after posting a five-over 77 and is four-over through 16 holes in her second round.
Individually, freshman Alise Knudson posted a 10-over 82 in her opening round and is three-over through 16 holes of the second round to sit 13-over for the tournament.
Campbell leads the team leader at seven-under through holes 12-16, with Boston College's Nathalie Irlbacher pacing the field individually at four-under through the 15th hole of her second round.
Play will resume on Tuesday morning at 7:45 a.m. CT with the conclusion of the second round before continuous play into the third and final round. Live score will be available via GolfStat.com.
