Lauren Wiles | Fr., Softball | Major: Undeclared

Freshman pitcher Lauren Wiles led the Fighting Illini softball team in innings pitched at the season-opening LSU Tiger Classic, throwing to a 0.82 ERA in 17.0 innings while only allowing two earned runs and striking out 20 batters. In Illinois' game vs. South Alabama, Wiles earned her first career win, striking out 11 batters in the first complete game of her career. She earned her second win of the weekend in the weekend finale vs. host and No. 14-ranked LSU. Wiles came on in relief and tossed four scoreless innings with four strikeouts as the Illini came back to earn a 5-2 victory in extra innings. 

Wiles, from Grimesland, N.C., is currently a student in the Division of General Studies.

Outside of her athletic and academic pursuits, Wiles is also involved with the Illini Student-Athlete Affinity Groups.
