ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Illinois women's golf team opened the 2021-22 season on Monday (Sept. 13) at the Wolverine Invitational and is in seventh place after carding a 36-hole team total of 585 (+17) heading into Tuesday's final round at the University of Michigan Golf Course.
Senior Crystal Wang led the way for the Illini and is tied for fifth on the individual leaderboard after rounds of 73 and 69 to sit even-par through two rounds. After an up and down opening round, Wang had a strong second round, tallying two birdies and scoring pars on the remaining holes. She is just four strokes off of leader Liyana Durisic of Iowa State at four-under.
Junior Siyan Chen is tied for 20th place at +3 after rounds of 73 and 72, while senior Kornkamol Sukaree was +4 on the day with rounds of 69 and 77 and sits in a tie for 24th place.
Freshman Lexanne Halama, making her Illini debut, turned in rounds of 79 and 74 and is tied for 62nd place at +11, with sophomore Isabel Sy rounding out the Illini lineup and is tied for 68th place at +13 following rounds of 79 and 76.
Also making her Illini debut is freshman Alise Knudson, who is competing as an individual and is tied for 59th place with scores of 74 and 78 to sit at +10 on the day.
Host Michigan leads the tournament with a two-round team score of 562 (-6).
Tuesday's final round begins with a shotgun start at 7:45 p.m. CT.
