
Nowlin, Wang Earn Top-10 Finishes at Briar’s Creek Invitational

JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. — Illinois senior Tristyn Nowlin had her best round of the year Tuesday, firing a 4-under 68 en route to a tied for eighth place finish at the Briar's Creek Invitational. Nowlin and Illinois' Crystal Wang both finished at +4 and in eighth for the tournament, as the Illini team finished in 11th (+38).
Nowlin used five birdies Tuesday to finish +4 for the 54-hole, two-day event. Wang had rounds of 73-76-71 to get to 220 (+4) for the tournament, her second top-10 finish of the season (5th, Heroes Ladies Intercollegiate).
Reena Sulkar was Illinois' third-best finisher with a 30th-place showing at +9. She was even par during the final 18 holes to help Illinois go +3 on the day, the team's best round of the tournament.
The host College of Charleston won the event at +9 and had the individual winner Viktoria Hund, who finished -6.
Illinois is back in tournament play March 26-28 at the Clemson Invitational at Reserve Club at Lake Keowee in Sunrise, S.C.. Nowlin is scheduled to play as an individual in the Augusta National Women's Amateur March 31-April 3 at Champions Retreat (Rounds 1-2) and Augusta National (Round 3).

Monday's Recap
The Illinois women's golf team is in 10th place after the first day of the Briar's Creek Invitational at The Golf Club at Briar's Creek. Illinois had 3-5 holes remaining of the 36-hole day when tournament play was suspended at 6:25 p.m. CT due to darkness.
Crystal Wang is tied for 11th on the individual leaderboard at +5 overall through 14 holes of round two. She is six strokes off the leader's pace, as host College of Charleston's Viktoria Hund is 1-under.
Tristyn Nowlin and Reena Sulkar were both +9 on the day to sit in 36th place. Illinois' fourth scorer Isabel Sy is +12 and tied for 53rd place.
Play will resume Tuesday morning at 7:30 a.m. CT, first finishing the second round, then continuing through the final round with a shotgun start at approximately 8 a.m. CT. College of Charleston leads the team leaderboard at +8.
