PLACIDA, Fla. – The Fighting Illini men's golf team opened its 2021 schedule on Saturday, securing a 9-7 win vs. Illinois State in the annual Tinervin Cup. Â
The Ryder Cup style event, hosted by Jeff Tinervin at the par-71, 7,038-yard Coral Creek Golf Club, offers the Fighting Illini and the Redbirds a unique opportunity to gauge their programs in a competitive setting before beginning tournament play.
"We are so grateful to Jeff Tinervin and the Tinervin Family Foundation for hosting us this weekend," head coach Mike Small said. "The Tinervin Cup is an outstanding event each and every year, and serves as a great way for us to begin our spring schedule."
The Illini now turn their attention to the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate hosted by South Alabama, Feb. 14-16, at the Crossings Course at Magnolia Grove Country Club in Mobile, Ala.
