BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The No. 13-ranked Fighting Illini men's golf team sits in third place, led by junior Dane Huddleston in a tie atop the individual leaderboard, after play was suspended with 3-5 holes remaining in Round 2 of the Hoosier Collegiate at The Pfau Course.
The opening round was delayed Saturday morning, with 36 holes originally scheduled. Play was stopped due to darkness and will pick up with the completion of Round 2, followed by the final round, on Sunday at 8:45 a.m. ET/7:45 a.m. CT.
Four Illini – three in the team's scoring lineup – are inside the top five.
Huddleston (-1) posted an opening round of 74 (+3), but is 4-under through 14 holes in Round 2. He will pick up Sunday morning in a four-way tie for the lead with Kansas' Luke Honner, and Sam Easterbrook and Will Harvey of Purdue.
Sophomore Jake Birdwell and senior Ryan Voois are even-par in a tie for fifth with teammate Freddie Turnell, who is competing as an individual.
Junior Ethan Wilson, also competing as an individual, is inside the top 20 in a tie for 18th at 3-over, while junior Max Herendeen (+9) and sophomore Trey Marrion (+11) are tied for 49th and 61st, respectively, to round out the Illini lineup.
Kansas and Purdue are tied for first, five strokes ahead of the Illini at 3-over. Little Rock (+17) and Wisconsin (+19) round out the top five in the team race.
