FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Illinois women's golf team finished up action at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational on Wednesday (Oct. 6) at the par-72, 6,556-yard Blessings Golf Club, placing in a tie for sixth after registering a final round score of 296 (+8) for a 54-hole total of 906 (+42).
"There is much to be gained from this experience," said head coach Renee Slone. "This was certainly a test of patience, perseverance and self-management. We can improve on some decision making as we made some choices that put us in difficult scoring positions and had far too many big numbers. The Blessings provides quite the challenge and it exposed some areas of weakness for us. Looking forward to putting this info into action in the coming days as we have a quick turnaround before hosting our event at Medinah on Monday-Tuesday."
Senior Crystal Wang led the Illini from start-to-finish and tied for 14th with a six-over 222 after posting a final round one-over 73, with classmate Kornkamol Sukaree joining her in the top-20 with an eight-over 224 tournament total to tie for 20th after an even-par 72 on Wednesday.
Sophomore Isabel Sy moved up nine spots with a final round even-par 72 to finish tied for 35th with a 54-hole total of 231 (+15), while junior Siyan Chen concluded the tournament tied for 41st with 235 (+19) total after carding a 10-over 82 in the final round. Freshman Lexanne Halama turned in a seven-over par 79 and ended the tournament in a tie for 46th with a 237 (+21) score.
Host Arkansas took home the tournament title with a 54-hole total of 855 (-9), with the Razorbacks' Brooke Matthews earning the individual title with a four-under 212 score through 54 holes. Â
The Illini will next host the Illini Women's Invitational at Medinah at the Medinah Country Club on Oct. 11-12 in Medinah, Ill.
