Three Illini Women Score On Day Two Of Big Ten Championships

IOWA CITY, Iowa - Three Illinois women's track & field athletes scored to lead the Illini on day two of Big Ten Outdoor Championships Saturday at the University of Iowa. In the women's Long Jump, senior Janile Rogers placed fifth and scored four points and senior Briana Driver placed seventh and scored two points. Sophomore Kristin Slaughter also achieved a podium finish, tying for eighth place in the women's Pole Vault.
Rogers recorded a jump of 6.13 meters to earn a fifth place finish. This is Rogers' first time scoring individually at the conference meet. Driver secured the seventh place finish with a season-best mark of 5.94 meters. For Driver, it is the first individual podium finish at the outdoor conference meet in her career. This is her second time scoring individually at a Big Ten Championships meet, as she previously earned a fifth-place finish to score four points at the 2017 Big Ten Indoor Championships.
Driver also clocked a season-best time in the women's 100m prelims with a finish time of 12.07.
For Slaughter, this is the first podium finish of her career at Big Ten Championships. She recorded a personal-best mark of 3.87 meters to tie for eighth place. The mark of 3.87 recorded by Slaughter ranks sixth in Illinois program history.
Illinois track & field also had two athletes advance to event finals Sunday by qualifying during their preliminary rounds on Saturday. Senior Devin Quinn advanced to the men's 100m final, automatically qualifying by winning his heat with a time of 10.36, the second fastest time in the preliminary field. In the women's 400m, junior Chisom Nwoko qualified for Sunday's event final by placing eighth overall, recording a time of 54.86.
Illini track athletes will compete in four individual running event finals tomorrow. Devin Quinn will contest both the 100m and 200m finals. The 100m final will take place at 1:50 p.m. CT, and the 200m will start at 2:35 p.m. CT. Chisom Nwoko will run in the women's 400m final, scheduled for 1:45 p.m. Junior Jesse Reiser will compete in the 1500m final tomorrow at 1:05 p.m. CT.
The Illini will also compete in the finals on Sunday in both the men's and women's 4x100m and 4x400m relays. In field events, Illini athletes will contest the men's and women's Triple Jump. Illini competition on the final day of Big Ten Championships starts at 11 a.m. CT with the men's Triple Jump.
