CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The University of Illinois swimming and diving team will wrap up 2019 sending three Fighting Illini swimmers to the 2019 Toyota U.S. Open Championships in Atlanta, Ga., and three divers to the Rutgers Invitational in Piscataway, N.J. Both events begin Wednesday, Dec. 4, and run through Saturday, Dec. 7.

TOYOTA U.S. OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS 

Redshirt senior Aby Olson, and seniors Kristin Anderson and Jamie Kolar will be the three student-athletes representing the Illini at the Georgia Tech McAuley Aquatic Center for the U.S. Open Championships.

The event is slated to begin Wednesday, Dec. 4, though Illini swimmers will not start competition until day two, Thursday, Dec. 5. Anderson will compete in the 50 freestyle on day two.

Day three action will start on Friday, Dec. 6, in which both Olson and Kolar will compete in the 100 backstroke. Anderson and Kolar will race on Saturday, Dec. 7, in the 100 freestyle and the 200 backstroke, respectively.  There will be an "A" flight and "B" flight for all events.

The U.S. Open Championships will feature preliminary and final rounds of each event. Preliminaries begin at 9 a.m. CT, while finals begin at 6 p.m. CT. Olympic time trials will take place on Thursday. Events will be live streamed on usaswimming.org, and day three "A" flight finals will be aired on NBC Sports Network, and nbcsports.com, while day four of "A" flight finals will be streamed on nbcsports.com.

RUTGERS INVITATIONAL

Sophomores Madelyn Crosby and Taylor Shegos, and freshman Erin Young will take part in the three-day event at the Rutgers Aquatic Center for the Orange and Blue.

Competition at the invitational is set to begin on Wednesday, Dec. 4, although diving events will not begin until Thursday, Dec. 5 and will be completed Saturday, Dec. 7, featuring both preliminary and final rounds of each event. Preliminaries for diving events will start at 11 a.m. CT.

The one-meter dive will take place on Thursday, Dec. 5, while the three-meter dive will be on Friday, Dec. 6 and the platform dive will be Saturday, Dec. 7. Each event will have a preliminary, consolation and final round on its respected day.

Other teams that will be competing at the invite alongside Illinois and host Rutgers, include American, Colgate, Columbia, UConn and Lehigh.

UP NEXT

The Orange and Blue will compete Jan. 11, against both Iowa and Notre Dame in Iowa City, Iowa. Meet action is set to begin at 11 a.m. CT.
