Schedule | Illini Women's Invitational at Medinah Release
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Illinois women's golf head coach Renee Slone and assistant coach Pina Gentile are looking forward to the impending season, as the team will kick-off the fall with five tournaments. Slone enters her 13th season at the helm, while Gentile begins her first season with the Illini women's golf family.
"We are excited to welcome several new faces to our program and are looking forward to the coming season with great anticipation," said Slone.
The Illini return three golfers from last season, headlined by lone senior and 2018 All-Big Ten honoree, Bing Singhsumalee. Joining Singsumalee are junior and All-Big Ten honoree, Tristyn Nowlin, and sophomore Ali Morallos. The promising freshman class of Katie Hallinan, Sarah Hauenstein, Lauren Nay, Kornkamol "Stang" Sukaree, and Crystal Wang are looking to make an immediate impact for the Illini this season.
"With a strong foundation provided by Bing (Singhsumalee), Tristyn (Nowlin), and Ali (Morallos), our incoming class will look to them for leadership and guidance as they transition into college and our program," noted Slone.
The Illini will be opening up the season at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship on Sept. 17-18 in Knoxville, Tenn. The orange and blue will return to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho for the Coeur d'Alene Resort Collegiate on Sept. 26-27. The squad will travel up north to the Chicagoland area to host the Illini Women's Invitational at Medinah from Oct. 8-9. Held at the Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Ill., this marks 10 years since the Illinois women's golf program has hosted a tournament since the 2008 Illini Spring Classic in Urbana, Ill.
"We are so grateful to the membership and staff at Medinah Country Club for hosting this event," said Slone. "We are very appreciative of their efforts in making this a memorable experience for the student-athletes. We invite Illini nation to support our team at Medinah."
In October, the team will participate in the annual Cardinal Cup held in Simpsonville, Ky. from Oct. 20-21. The Illini will conclude the fall season with a trip to the Lone Star state to play in the Trinity Forest Invitational in Dallas, Texas on Oct. 29-30.
"With a mix of new and familiar events, this fall's schedule will provide us with an opportunity to develop our skill set in preparation for the spring season," noted Slone.
