KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – After two rounds of play at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship, the Fighting Illini sit in sixth place with a 592 (+24). The Orange and Blue posted scores of 302 (+18) and 290 (+6) in the first two rounds from Cherokee Country Club (Par 71, 5900 yards) in Knoxville, Tenn.
In her collegiate debut, freshman Kornkamol Sukaree is tied for 17th with a score of 6-over par 148. After a gradual start, Sukaree posted four birdies and a 1-under par 70 in the second round of the tournament.
Sophomore Ali Morallos and senior Bing Singhsumalee laid the foundation for the Illini in the first round by tying for 18th with 3-over par 74. Morallos finished the day at 21st with 7-over par 149, while Singhsumalee sits at 33rd recording a 9-over par 151.
Junior Tristyn Nowlin and freshman Crystal Wang finished strong with an 8-over par 150, tying for 27th. Nowlin improved her ranking, jumping eight spots from the first round, while Wang showed immense improvement, scoring an even-par 71.
The final round of the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship will tee off Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. CT/ 8:30 a.m. in the order of Morallos, Sukaree, Nowlin, Wang, and Singhsumalee.
