The John Mackey Award named Illinois sophomore tight end Lou Dorsey to its watch list, the award committee announced Friday. It is the first career watch list recognition for Dorsey.
The Mackey Award
The John Mackey Award is presented annually to the nation's best tight end. The award recipient is selected by vote of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee and the 2018 Mackey Award recipient will be announced on December 5, 2018 and then presented live on December 6, 2018 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU.

Lou Dorsey
• Sophomore tight end from Jacksonville, Florida (Jean Ribault)
• Played in all 12 games last season, including seven starts, as a true freshman
• 22 receptions for 395 yards and three touchdowns in 2017
• 395 receiving yards was the eighth-most by a tight end in Illinois single-season history
• Led Illinois in receiving touchdowns (3), all coming in Big Ten games
• 77-yard touchdown reception against Indiana was the longest reception in Illinois history by a true freshman
• 107 receiving yards against Indiana was the most by a true freshman tight end in Illinois history
• 18.0 yards per catch in 2017 would have led all FBS true freshmen, but his 1.83 receptions per game fell just short of the NCAA stats minimum (2.0).
