URBANA, Ill. - Fighting Illini senior
Aleks Vukic has withdrawn from the NCAA Individual Championships, head coach
Brad Dancer announced on Monday afternoon.
"While it is disappointing that Aleks won't be able to compete for an NCAA individual title, at this time it's best for him to withdraw from the singles championship," Dancer said. "I'm so tremendously proud of all of Alek's accomplishments in his time at Illinois. Most of all, how he always gave it everything he had and acted with class and composure. It's a testament to his family and the person he's become."
Vukic completes his four-year career at Illinois with a 108-19 overall record in singles. The 108 career victories sits at No. 9 in the Illinois record books. Vukic has won a program-best 11 Big Ten Athlete of the Week honors and was named the 2017 Big Ten Player of the Year. The Sydney, Australia, native will earn his third ITA All-America honor in singles and continue his tennis career on the professional tour.
"I just want to thank the great Champaign-Urbana community, my coaches and my teammates for an incredible four years," Vukic said. "It's been a pleasure to be able to represent the Orange and Blue."
