CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The Fighting Illini women's swimming and diving team will look for its first road victory of the season as the Orange and Blue travel to Lincoln, Nebraska, for a dual meet with the Cornhuskers on Saturday, January 20. Meet competition is set to begin at 11 a.m. CT.Â
"We expect the team to be able to stand up this weekend and put up some good performances," head coach Sue Novitsky said. "We have been solidifying habits in the pool and we really want to see the team keep taking steps forward."Â
Scouting the CornhuskersÂ
Nebraska enters the weekend with a 3-2 dual record on the season, including wins over Northern Iowa and Iowa State. Most recently, Nebraska hit the road to take on in-state Omaha and defeated the Mavericks 189-103. The two losses for the Cornhuskers came against Arkansas and Kansas.Â
Nebraska earned a narrow victory over the Illini at the ARC Pool a year ago, outscoring UI 169-131.Â
Last Time Out
The Illini came up short against Iowa (198-102) and Notre Dame (213-84) in a two-day meet in Iowa City, Iowa, a week ago. The Orange and Blue came away with the top time in two events, including Senior Samantha Stratford in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:05.65 and senior Ashley Aegerter in the 200 breaststroke (2:17.16).Â
Next Up
Following Saturday's meet at Nebraska, the Illini will get set for the final two home meets of the season. The Illinois Quad Duals will be held on Friday, January 26, at 4 p.m. CT, while the Illinois Tri-Meet will be the following day at 11 a.m. CT. Both meets will be held at the ARC Pool.Â
"We will be looking at everything to gauge where the team is with their training," Novitsky said. "For the swimmers we are looking at how they are executing their race plans and the little details that go into each race. The divers will keep working on improving the level and consistency of their lists on each board. As a team we will be looking at how we are handling the pressure, staying focused and responding when challenged."
