FAIRFAX, Calif. – The Illinois women's golf team sits in third place after the first two rounds of play at the Meadow Club Women's Intercollegiate. The Fighting Illini posted a first round score of 294 (+6) and a second round score of 296 (+8) at the Meadow Club (Par 72, 6,167 yards) in Fairfax, California.
"Obviously we had a couple of team members do a number of good things," said head coach Renee Slone. "Swing Liu played well throughout the day. Her misses were in the right spot, she was able to recover well, and stayed composed. She faced a couple of challenging situations and handled them well. Jan (Prapassarangkul) made a bunch of birdies, especially in the first 18 holes. She just hit a lot of quality approach shots. She had a couple of unfortunate incidents, but she responded well and bounced right back. She showed a lot of resiliency."
Liu sits in first place with a 71 (-1) in the first round and a 70 (-2) in the second round for a three-under-par overall. Prapassarangkul led the field in the first round, tying her career-best single round score of 69 (-3), and now sits in a tie for fourth after carding a 75 (+3) in the second round for a 144 (E) overall.
Grace Park is tied for 28th after posting a 78 (+6) in the first round and a 73 (+1) in the second round for a seven-over-par score. Bing Singhsumalee shot a first round score of 76 (+4), and an 80 (+8) in the second round, for a 12-over-par score and a tie for 53rd. Tristyn Nowlin also sits in a tie for 53rd, after carding a 78 (+6) in both rounds.
"We will continue to stick to the process," Slone said. "Staying where our feet are, being present-minded, taking it one shot at a time and really enjoying the experience. There were a number of really good things taking place for our players today, so it's just a matter of building off of that for everybody.
The final round of the Meadow Club Women's Intercollegiate will tee off Tuesday morning at 10:15 a.m. CT.
