JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. – The Illinois women's golf team sits in third place with a score of 577 (+1) after two rounds of play at the Briar's Creek Invitational. The Fighting Illini posted a first round score of 281 (-7) and a second round score of 296 (+8) at The Golf Club at Briar's Creek (Par 72, 6,101 yards). The seven-under-par score in the first round is a new program record for the lowest single-round score.

"We had a great opening round, setting the school record," said head coach Renee Slone. "We took advantage of the calmer conditions in the morning. We could have adjusted to the conditions in the afternoon better, and our energy level was not as strong."

Swing Liu sits in a tie for ninth with a 69 (-3) in the first round, tying the lowest round of her career, and a 73 (+1) in the second round for a two-under-par overall. Chayanid Prapassarangkul and Tristyn Nowlin are both tied for 19th at 144 (E), after Prapassarangkul carded two rounds of 72 (E), and Nowlin shot a first round of score of 71 (-1) and a second round score of 73 (+1)

Grace Park is tied for 33rd after posting a 69 (-3) in the first round, matching the lowest round of her career, and a 78 (+6) in the second round for a three-over-par score. Bing Singhsumalee shot a first round score of 77 (+5), and an 85 (+13) in the second round, placing 91st with an 18-over-par score.

Competing as an individual, Dana Gattone recorded a 75 (+3) in the first round and a 79 (+7) in the second round, sitting in a tie for 70th with a 154 (+10).

"There were many positives from the strong opening round," Slone said. "We need to come out refreshed and recharged tomorrow."

The final round of the Briar's Creek Invitational will tee off Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. CT.
