Stage I ResultsĀ
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -Ā Former Illini golfers Stephanie Miller ('17) and Samantha PostillionĀ ('15) will play in the LPGA Qualifying Tournament Stage II, October 16-22, at the Plantation Golf Course in Venice, Florida. The two golfers qualified for the event after finishing in the top 90 duringĀ the first stage of the tournament.
"We are very excited about the success that Sam and Steph have experienced," head coach Renee Slone said. "We are wishing them the very best and know that they will be well prepared for next week."
Postillion finished with a four-round reading of 72-73-70-72 for a total of 287 (-1) at Stage I, placing her in a tie for 48th overall. Miller tied for 79th overall, carding scores of 78-71-71-71 and finishing with a 291 (+3) total at the event, which was held at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, California.
"The experience was unlike any other I have had," said Miller. "It was the hottest weather I've played in, the most girls in a tournament I've been in, the most cuts I've had to make in one event and the most consecutive golf I've played in a long time. I lacked competitive round experience after not playing in many tournaments throughout the summer, but I shook off first-round jitters and played solid golf the next three days, which was just enough to make it."
The two golfers have been preparing for Stage II by playing in Cactus Tour events in Arizona, most recently the 2017 Trilogy at Power Ranch. Miller won the event, finishing with a three day reading of 73-66-70 for a 209 (-7) total. The 66 (-6) second round total is a career-best for the Elgin, Illinois, native. Postillion finished tied for second overall, posting scores of 71-69-70 for a total of 210 (-6).
"I will put forth my best effort at Stage II in Florida and be confident in knowing that I've had so much success and so many positives so far this year," Postillion said. "I am definitely growing as a professional golfer and I look forward to competing in Stage II with my former teammate. When Stephanie and I play our best, we both have the ability to win."
