GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Illinois Women's Golf team finds itself in fourth following the first round of play at the Lady Paladin Invitational. The Fighting Illini carded a team score of 286 (-2) on the first day of competition at the Furman University Golf Course (Par 72, 6,313) in Greenville, South Carolina.
"We gave ourselves some good opportunities," head coach Renee Slone said. "Unfortunately we didn't capitalize on some of those opportunities, but it was a solid start."
Sophomore Bing Singhsumalee paces the squad with a 70 (-2) and is currently tied for seventh overall. Senior Stephanie Miller is right behind her with a 71 (-1) showing, and is tied for 12th. Currently sitting in a tie for 17th is junior Grace Park who is even (72) on the day. Freshman Tristyn Nowlin carded a 73 (+1) effort in the first round, and sits in a tie for 30th, and Chayanid Prapassarangkul, a junior, is tied for 42nd with a 74 (+2).
"There is a lot of positive energy," Slone said. "Everyone has a great attitude. We will build off of our performance today as we head into tomorrow."
The second round of the tournament is slated for tomorrow morning with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. CT.
