NORFOLK, Va. – Just days after the Illinois women's swimming and diving program earned College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) All-America status as a team for their efforts in the classroom this past spring, four individual Illini student-athletes were named CSCAA Scholar All-Americans. Ashley Aegerter, Jessica Clifford, Jennifer Coady and Gabbie Stecker were recognized as CSCAA honorable mention Scholar All-Americans.
"It is a tremendous recognition for these four ladies to earn Honorable Mention Scholar All-American," stated Illinois head coach Sue Novitsky. "I am extremely proud of the effort and dedication that they have shown in the classroom, in the pool and on the boards all year. We are looking for our student-athletes to aim high and to follow through with consistent effort and commitment. Once again the positive environment that has been established by the academic services staff at the Irwin Academic Center is phenomenal. Our academic counselor, Mike Maziarz, is such an asset to our team and I appreciate all of his time and effort."
In addition to the 853 first-team selections, 828 students were named as Honorable Mentioned selections including the Fighting Illini student-athletes. These students have similarly achieved a GPA of 3.50 and achieved a "B" time standard or competed at a regional or zone qualifying meet. Of these, an additional 139 students will be in Indianapolis or Omaha vying for a spot on the United States Olympic team
