Bradenton, Fla. - A huge comeback on Tuesday morning in Bradenton, Fla., helped the Illini advance to the Semifinal round of Match Play at the 2015 NCAA Championships. Starting the day with an early deficit to No. 8 seeded UCLA, the Illini came back to win the match 3-2-0.

It came down to the final hole as freshman Nick Hardy was all square with UCLA's Valder headed into the 17th hole. Hardy shot par on 17 to go 1-up, and secured the win for the Illini with a clutch 8-foot par putt on 18.

"I felt good," Hardy said of the high-pressure situation he was in. "love it, it's what I practice for. It's a lot of fun."

Junior Charlie Danielson helped swing the team's momentum during the round. Down three through six holes, the Osceola, Wis., native went on to win seven consecutive holes and beat UCLA's Knapp 4&3. He was the first of the Fighting Illini to notch a win for the day.

After finishing third individually in stroke play, junior Thomas Detry also came back from a deficit late in the match to earn a win for the Illini. Detry was down three as he made the turn, but with wins on three of four holes, he squared up the match on the 16th hole. Detry went 1-up on 17 to give Illinois two wins total.

Freshman Dylan Meyer had a solid round of golf, unfortunately falling 4&2 in his match. Meyer took an early lead in the match, going 1-up on the first hole. He held his lead through three, but the two were all square after the fourth hole. Meyer was able to get back into the lead early on the back nine, but UCLA took five consecutive holes to tally a win for the Bruins.

Senior Brian Campbell also came back from a major deficit as UCLA had a 3-up lead on the California native as he rounded the turn. Campbell came back with wins on holes 11, 13 and 14 to get all-square, and another win put him 1-upon the 15th hole. UCLA came back to take lead and win 1-up in the match.

The Illini face USC in the quarterfinal round beginning this afternoon. The winner of today's match will face the winner of the match against LSU and Georgia, beginning at 2:10 p.m. ET on Wednesday.

Held at Par 72, 7,483-yard course at The Concessions Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla., the Match Play Quarterfinal round begins tomorrow with tee times at 6 a.m. CT.
