CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Quarterback Aaron Bailey has decided to transfer from Illinois after two seasons in Champaign. The Bolingbrook, Illinois, native is taking classes at Illinois during the spring semester, but will not participate in spring practices.
A top recruit in 2013, Bailey played in 14 games over two seasons with the Illini, all in a back-up role. He completed 13-of-27 passes for 122 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, while also rushing for 203 yards and four touchdowns on 52 carries (3.9 ypc). He will have three years to complete two season of eligibility wherever he decides to continue his career.
Illinois Head Coach Tim Beckman Statement:
"Aaron came to me a couple of weeks ago and said that he was considering a transfer to another school. I asked that he take some time to carefully consider, because we really wanted him to stay and be a part of our team. We met a couple more times, including earlier this week, before Aaron came back this morning and said he was definitely leaving. I respect his decision and wish him nothing but the best."
Aaron Bailey Statement:
"I would like to thank the coaching staff for giving me the opportunity to come to a great University. I also want to thank my teammates, my brothers. I can honestly say that I felt I had a personal relationship with every single player. I love those guys and they made it very difficult to leave. Finally, I would like to thank Illini Nation for receiving me with open arms. It's unfortunate that it didn't work out at Illinois, and I hope for the best for the program going forward."
