KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – Round one of the Palmetto Intercollegiate is in the books and the Illinois women's golf team sits in a share of fourth place in the 20-team field. The Fighting Illini shot a team round of 290 and sit just four strokes off of the lead at the event after the first day.
Individually, Chayanid Prapassarangkul leads the Illinois unit following a two-under par score of 70 in the opening round. The sophomore Illini posted a birdie on the opening hole and worked below par the rest of the round, adding a second birdie on the 13th hole. Prapassarangkul is tied for third on the individual leaderboard.
Bing Singhsumalee and Stephanie Miller each posted first round scores of 73 (+1) and are tied for 23rd individually. Both Illinois golfers posted a pair of bogeys in the opening holes of the round and followed with birdies each before heading to the back nine. Singhsumalee shot an even-par 36 following the turn with Miller doing the same.
Grace Park sits in a share of 32rd following a two-over mark of 74 on the first day of action. After carding a 39 on the front-nine holes, Park turned in three birdies to close the round and finished at one-under on the final nine holes. Park leads the Fighting Illini with four birdies so far.
With a first-round score of 75 (+3), Dana Gattone is tied for 47th after the opening round of the Palmetto Intercollegiate.
No. 48 Campbell sits in the lead with a two-under first round score of 286. Kennesaw State is in second with a team mark of 287 followed by No. 40 Furman in third at an even 288. UI finds themselves in a three-way tie for fourth place with Xavier and No. 23 Louisville following a carding of 290 (+2). Coastal Carolina and Kansas are tied for seventh place at 294 (+6) with Chattanooga (295) and Boise State (296) rounding out the top 10. Filling out the remainder of the field in order are: Tulsa (297), No. 46 Augusta (298), Virginia Tech (299), College of Charleston (299), East Tennessee State (301), Charleston Southern (306), South Florida (309), Stetson (311), Maryland (312) and Boston University (313).
The three-day event hosted by the College of Charleston will commence day two from the Turtle Point Golf Course on Monday, Oct. 25, with the first tee times starting at 9:15 a.m. CT.
