SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. – With the first and second rounds of the Louisville-hosted Cardinal Cup in the books, the Illinois women's golf team currently sits in fourth place. UI posted team rounds of 299 and 292 on the first day of action from the University of Louisville Golf Club in Simpsonville, Kentucky.
Illinois opened the first round with a sub-300 score and was one of just four units to do so. Individually, Grace Park and Bing Singhsumalee led the Orange and Blue, each carding a one-over par mark of 73 to open play. Singhsumalee carded a birdie on the opening hole and finished two-under par on the front nine.
Stephanie Miller turned in a first-round score of 75 (+3) followed by Chayanid Prapassarangkul's 78 (+6) and a mark of 82 (+10) by Dana Gattone. As an individual, Pailin Ruttanasupagid tallied an opening round score of 85 (+13).
UI opened the first round on the back nine holes and shot 12-over par as a unit but fired back to close out the frame with a three-under par mark on the front-nine. Illinois finished the first round of action in fourth place.
Park opened round two with a quick birdie and worked below par the rest of the way. Following birdies on holes 15 and 17, Park saw her lowest mark of the round at three-under par. The sophomore finished even on the front-nine en route to a final reading of 71 (-1). Park leads Illinois and is currently tied for sixth individually.
Singhsumalee worked for much of round two at one-under par but two late bogeys gave the freshman a final score of 73 to close the day. She currently is tied for 12th at two-over par on the tournament.
With her second score of 75 (+3) on the day, Miller enters the final round of action tied for 25th at six-over par.
Prapassarangkul dropped three strokes off of her opening score on the day for a 75 to sit at nine-over par and t-41st overnight with a combined mark of 153.
Gattone opened second-round play with consecutive birdies and entered the second half of the round after posting a one-under par score of 35 on the back nine holes. The sophomore Illini finished the second round with a score of 73 for a two-round mark of 155 and is currently tied for 52nd.
In the second round of action, Ruttanasupagid carded six birdies and finished with a score of 80. The Illinois sophomore sits 76th on the individual leaderboard.
No. 19 Louisville heads the team standings with a two-round mark of 584 (+8) and No. 33 Florida State is right behind the hosts at 585 (+9). No. 30 Notre Dame sits at 590 (+14), just a stroke ahead of the Illinois squad. Wisconsin and the Louisville "B" team enter the final round tied for fifth at 597 (+21). Filling out the top 10 are No. 26 East Carolina (+22), Virginia Tech (+23), Cincinnati (+24), Chattanooga (+25) and Columbia (+25). Rounding out the field are Richmond (+31), Ball State (+36), Indiana (+47) and Bradley (+48).
Round three of the Cardinal Cup is set for Tuesday, Oct. 20, with a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m. CT. Live scoring is available from Golfstat.com.
