CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The Fighting Illini women's basketball team hosted "Trick or Treating with the Stars," a Halloween-themed event for kids of all ages, on Sunday, with approximately 1,400 people passing through the Ubben Basketball Complex. Kids sporting all kinds of halloween costumes were in attendance as they received candy and participated in a number of activities including a photo booth, face painting, coloring stations and of course a basketball hoop for kids to practice their jump shot. The Illini women's basketball players joined in on the fun - some sporting costumes of their own - helping run the multiple interactive games.
The event was sponsored by U of I Employees Credit Union and the Courtsiders, the Illinois women's basketball booster group.
The annual event will served as an unofficial kickoff to the 2014-15 Illini season, which begins with an exhibition game against Millikin at State Farm Center at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8. Illinois opens the regular season against IPFW on Friday, Nov. 14, at 3 p.m. as part of a women's and men's doubleheader. The Illini men host Georgia Southern in their regular-season opener at 8 p.m. on Nov. 14.
