EUGENE, Ore. -- The Illini men's track and field team concluded competition at the 2013 NCAA Championships as the 4x400m relay earned All-America honors in the event with their fifth place finish. They finished the national meet tied for 49th place with four national points.

"What an effort those four guys put forth today," head coach Mike Turk said. "This has been quite an eventful year for our team, especially our 4x400m relay. I am so pleased with the way they finished the year. Each guy had a specific role and made a big contribution to the relays success. It truly was a team effort."

The 4x400m relay squad ran out of lane one as sophomore DJ Zahn took the track first for the Illini before giving the baton to freshman Cameron Viney. After the second lap around Historic Hayward Field, the Illini sat in sixth place as freshman Juan-Paul Green ran the third leg for the Orange and Blue. Green remained in sixth place heading into the final exchange as he handed the stick to junior Stephon Pamilton. Pamilton made up ground on the final home stretch to cross the finish line fifth with a time of 3:04.83. The time is the third best of the season and earns the crew first team All-America honor. It's the highest place for the 4x400m relay squad since 1994 when the team of Dorian Green, Anthony Jones, Ben Beyers and Scott Turner finished fourth.

The Illini finished the national meet with 10 All-Americans including the 4x400m relay squad who earned first-team honors, senior Hunter Mickow (10K), freshman Juan Paul Green (400m) and the 4x100m relay earning second-team honors at NCAAs.
