EUGENE, Ore. -- The Illini men's track and field wrapped up competition on day one of the NCAA Championships at historic Hayward Field. Freshman Juan Paul Green earned second-team All-America honors in the 400m, finishing with a lifetime best time of 46.18 while the 4x100m relay squad of junior Julian Smith, sophomore Brandon Stryganek, junior Stephon Pamilton and sophomore DJ Zahn turned in the second fastest time of the season with a time of 39.76. Pamilton also competed in the 400m, finishing with a time of 47.72.

Both Green and Pamilton ran in the third heat of the 400m on Wednesday evening. Green finished sixth overall with a lifetime best time of 46.18. The freshman's time ranks just outside the Illinois top-10 lists and was the 14th best of the day. For his efforts, the Miami, Fla., native earned second team All-America honors in the event. Pamilton ran out of lane eight and finished the race with a time of 47.72. 

In the 4x100m relay, Smith came out of the blocks in lane seven before giving the baton to Stryganek, who was second after his leg before handing it to Pamilton. Pamilton maintained the pace among the leaders and handed the baton to Zahn. Zahn finished the race with a time of 39.76 to place fourth in the heat. The time was the second fastest of the season for the quartet as they placed 13th overall in the event.

The Illini will resume action at the NCAA Championships on Thursday in two events. The 4x400m relay squad of sophomore DJ Zahn, freshman Cameron Viney, Green and Pamilton will look to advance to the finals in the event (8:40 CT) while senior Hunter Mickowwill run in the 10,000m final at 9:15 p.m. CT.
