HUMBLE, Texas - Former Illini D.A. Points shot a final-round six-under 66 to grab a one-shot victory at the Shell Houston Open on Sunday, his second PGA Tour victory. He saved par on the final two holes at Redstone Golf Club and fired four consecutive pars after a rain delay that lasted nearly three hours and soaked the golf course.
Points edged Henrik Stenson and Billy Horschel by one stroke, finishing -16 on the tournament. The Pekin, Ill., native had made only two cuts in 2013 prior to the Shell Houston Open, but turned things around this weekend. With the win, points rockets up to 19th on the FedExCup standings. Fellow former Illini Steve Stricker finished tied for 38th at -5 for the tournament.
