GREENWOOD, Ind. - Day one of the Hoosier Fall Invitational was cut short due to darkness, but the Illini remain tied for second place at +16, two strokes behind UC Davis heading into Sunday. The second round will be finished in the morning starting at 9 AM, immediately followed by the third and final round of the tournament.
"The conditions were by far the most challenging we've seen this season. I thought the team did a good job of staying patient, staying committed and we played a respectable round in the morning." said Illinois Head Coach Renee Slone.
Illinois got solid rounds out of all of its golfers on Saturday, with senior Ember Schuldt leading the Illini effort, standing at +3 after her first two rounds. Redshirt-junior Sam Postillion (+5), and freshmen Emily Joers (+4) and Stephanie Miller (+4) round out the Illini's first day.
Illinois came into the tournament as the favorite, being the only team at the Hoosier Fall Invitational in the top 25.
"For us, we go into each event setting our own goals, our own team goals, our own individual goals and if we are able to accomplish those things then it's a successful tournament."
Illinois will look to come back and win its second straight tournament this fall season tomorrow at the Hickory Stick Golf Club in Greenwood, Indiana.
