Big Tens Round One Scores 
A severe thunderstorm has suspended play in the second round of the Big Ten Championships on Friday, with several teams still needing to finish the second round. Illinois was able to complete 36 holes and sits ninth as play was suspended. Illinois (627) carded rounds of 314-313 on the par-72, 6,303-yard Lake Shore Country Club. Freshman Ember Schuldt (153) led the way for the Illini individually, tallying a first round six-over par 78 and a three-over par 75 to end the day in a tie for 20th.
“We have our work cut out for us,” said head coach Renee Slone. “We have not put ourselves in a very good position and we’ve got two more rounds to go. We need to put together two very good rounds to make a move here, because there’s been a little gap created. Time is of the essence.”
Junior Nora Lucas (158) carded rounds of 78-80 and is tied for 43rd at 14-over par. Junior Hailey Koschmann (159) finished the day tied for 47th at 15-over par with rounds of 80-79. Junior Samantha Sloan (160) tallied rounds of 78-82 and is in a tie for 50th at 16-over par. Rounding out the Illini is junior Katelin Dilger (164), with rounds of 85-79, and sophomore Crystal Smith (166), with rounds of 82-84.
No. 19 Michigan State (596) and Wisconsin (303) lead the team standings at 20-over par, with Wisconsin still in the process of completing the second round. No. 4 Purdue (599) is three strokes off the pace at 23-over par, with No. 31 Ohio State (304), No. 38 Northwestern (308), and No.40 Minnesota (307) in a tie for fourth at 24-over par and all three still needing to complete the second round.
Michigan State’s Caroline Powers (142) leads all individuals at two-under par after tallying a first round even-par 72 and a two-under par 70.
