The Illinois women’s golf team had the round they have been looking for, shooting a seven-over par 295 to cut 14 strokes off their team score in the second round of the Eagle Landing Invitational on Saturday. The Illini sit in a tie for fourth heading into Sunday’s final round at the par-72, 6,282-yard Eagle Landing at Oakleaf Plantation. Illinois’ 295 is their second lowest single-round team total of the year, after the Orange and Blue had a three-under par 285 in the second round of the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic in September.
Junior Hailey Koschmann (147) recorded a two-under par 70 in the second round, tying the second-lowest round of her career, to lead the Illini. The junior from Lake Forest, Ill., is tied for sixth and is six strokes of leader Christine Wolf (141) of Chattanooga. Koschmann’s round was highlighted by four birdies and 12 pars. Freshman Ember Schuldt (151) cut five strokes off her second round, carding a one-over par 73, the third-lowest round of her young career and is tied for 29th.
Junior Samantha Sloan (152) was consistent in the second round with her second-consecutive four-over par 76 of the tournament and is in a tie for 32nd. Junior Katelin Dilger (154) also carded a second-round four-over par 76 and is tied for 41st, while freshman Crystal Smith (159) shot a five-over par 77 in the second round to round out the Illini.
Illinois sits ten strokes off second-place East Carolina (594). No. 34 Chattanooga (581) continues to lead the Invitational after 36 holes with a second round three-under par 285.
