COLUMBUS, Ind. - On a blustery Monday at the Otter Creek Golf Club, Illinois (644) battled the elements and sits in ninth place through 36 holes of the Indiana Invitational. The Illini opened the day with a 328 in the morning round, but improved by 12 strokes in the afternoon, tallying a round of 316.

Senior Nancy Featherstone (158), the team's lone upperclassman, paced the Orange and Blue on day one, firing rounds of 81 and 77, respectively. The Franklin Ill., native is tied for 17th heading into tomorrow's final round action.

Four freshmen rounded out the Illini scoring attack on the par-72 6,179-yard course, led by Nora Lucas (159). The Glenview, Ill., native posted rounds of 79 and 80, which placed her in a tie for 20th. Kaitlyn Wampler (165) notched an 83 in the morning followed by an 82 in the afternoon and is tied for 41st. Abby Cotter (170) turned in back-to-back rounds of 85 and is tied for 58th. Hailey Koschmann (172) struggled in the morning, but bounced back in the afternoon by tying the team-low round with a 77. Koschmann is tied for 64th through 36 holes.

Freshman Samantha Sloan (159) competed as an individual and is tied with Lucas for 20th. Sloan shot an 82 in the morning and improved by five strokes with a 77 in the afternoon. The Lansing, Ill., native was the only competitor to birdie the par-5 508-yard first hole, doing so in both rounds.

UNLV (626) leads the 14-team field and second-place Iowa State (633) by seven strokes. Texas, Michigan and Iowa are in a three-way tie for third with 36-hole totals of 635.

Natasha Krishna of UNLV and Nicole Vandermade of Texas rank atop the individual field with two-round totals of five-over 149. The average round score on Monday was 82.80, nearly 11 strokes over par.
