The Illinois swimming and diving team took part in its annual Orange and Blue scrimmage earlier tonight at the ARC pool, with the Orange squad defeating the Blue squad, 107- 79. Five different scrimmage records were set on the night in the 200 medley relay, 100 back, 100 breast, 100 fly and the 200 free relay.
CeCe Marizu broke her own scrimmage record with a time of 58.95 in the 100 back while Amy Johnson set a new record in the 100 breast with a time of 1:06.57 and Brittany McGowan broke the 100 fly record, clocking in at 58.04.
Competing in the 200 medley relay was Marizu, Rachel Japp, McGowan, and Kimberly Kalenda, who set a new record time of 1:47.86 in the event, while Anna Johnson, Erin Lamb, Kalenda and McGowan combined to set a record in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:37.61.
Newcomer Lauren Wismer claimed both the one-meter (205.8) and the three-meter (230.25) diving events, which were both scrimmage records.
"I thought the team did a great job of getting behind each other and supporting each other," head coach Sue Novitsky said. "As I told them before the meet, this is not our final meet, this is just the beginning, this is where it all starts."
Former Illini swimmers and divers will be back tomorrow for the annual alumni meet at the ARC pool beginning at 9:30 a.m.
