EAST LANSING, MI.- The Orange and Blue women's golf team currently sits in 6th place after carding a two-round total of 634 (320-314) at the 2007 Big Ten Championships at the par-72, 6,237-yard Forest Akers West Golf Course hosted by Michigan State University.
The Illini are currently led by senior captain Meghan Naik, who carded an 81 during play this morning, and fired a tremendous 74 during afternoon play to give her a two-round total of 155.
Following Naik are juniors Casey Burden (80-80=160) and Kristine Cook (79-81=160) tied for 31st and Seul Ki Park tied for 38th (83-79=162). Junior Stephanie Mory is currently tied for 46th (80-84=164) and fellow junior Kristin Kallergis rounds out day-one play in 66th (90-93=183), respectively.
Illinois head coach Renee Slone is optimistic about where the Illini currently sit heading into the next 36-holes.
"Conditions today were pretty challenging and in turn made the course play long," said Slone. "However, Meghan (Naik) played very well with one of the better rounds during the tournament so far, and we improved a lot during the afternoon round. Tomorrow and Sunday should be better weather and will help us with course management."
Host Michigan State (600) leads day-one action, but is followed closely by Purdue (617) and Northwestern (620).
Tournament action continues tomorrow with 18-holes being played on Saturday, April 28 and 18-holes played on Sunday, April 29. Complete results this weekend can be found at fightingillini.com at the conclusion of each round, and live scoring will be available at golfstat.com.
