March 10, 2007

The Fighting Illini women's track and field team concluded the second of two days of competition at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., with two top-15 finishes on the day.

Senior Yvonne Mensah competed in triple jump with a mark of 41'05.75", taking 14th-place. At last year's NCAA Indoor Championships, Mensah earned all-america status in triple jump, placing eighth with a mark of 43'03.75".

The 4x400m relay team, comprised of sophomore Omoye Ugiagbe, and seniors Camile Robinson, Carlene Robinson and Mensah ran a 3:37.94 to place 11th overall. This group also holds the Illinois school record indoors with a 3:35.34.

"We were hoping for a better finish today, but Camile ran a great leg of the 4x400m relay," assistant coach Tonja Buford-Bailey said. "Now we're just looking forward to having a great outdoor season."

The Illini return to action on March 24, when they head to Waco, Texas to compete in the Dr. Pepper Invitational. A full recap and results can be found at fightingillini.com following the conclusion of the meet.
