The University of Illinois women's swimming and diving team could not make up ground on the second day of the Big Ten Quad Dual meet falling to Minnesota 256-96, No. 14 Purdue 255-98 and No. 9 Wisconsin 260-93. The Illini's highest finish came in the 200 free relay when the team, consisting of Barbie Viney, Rebecca Poetz, Christina Brunka and Meghan Farrell, took second place honors in a season best time of 1:34.35.

Barbie Viney led the Illini with the highest finish of the day taking second place in the 100 free in 51.25. Christina Brunka swam a season best in the 100 fly, taking third place in 57.11.

In distance, Marissa Clapp claimed a fifth place finish in the 200 breast, setting a season best time of 2:19.38.

The Illini finished just as strongly as they started capping off the session with a fourth place finish in the 400 free relay (Farrell, Poetz, Brunka and Viney) in season best time of 3:27.86.

"Right now we are a little up and down because the team is trying to rest up for the Big Ten Championships in two weeks, plus this is our third straight week on the road. Altogether, we did pull some good swims together setting a number of season best times," commented head coach Sue Novitsky.

Next up, the Illini prepare for the Big Ten Championships in Columbus, Ohio starting February 15th-18th.
