The Illinois women's swimming and diving team faced No. 9 Wisconsin, No. 14 Purdue and Minnesota in competition at the Big Ten Quad Duals at University Aquatic Center. Junior Barbie Viney had the highest finish of the day, coming in third in the 50 free (23.79). Day one of the Big Ten Quad ended with Illinois trailing to No. 9 Wisconsin 153-52 and No. 14 Purdue 152-53. The hosting Gophers have a 172-41 edge over the Illini going into day two.
Marissa Clapp captured seventh in the 100 breast (1:06.17) and sixth in the 200 IM (2:07.79) while senior Christina Brunka finished seventh in the 100 back in a time of 59.74.
Illinois' 200 medley relay team consisting of Meghan Farrell, Kathryn Easey, Brunka and anchored by Rebecca Poetz came in fourth with a time of 1:47.97.
In 3-meter diving, Jackie Bain and Marina Mendoza took ninth and tenth place respectfully.
Competition resumes at noon on Saturday with nine events.
