
Zook Adds Randy Melvin to Coaching Staff

University of Illinois head football coach Ron Zook announced today the hiring of former Rutgers defensive line coach Randy Melvin. Melvin, a 22-year veteran in the coaching business boasts experience at both the collegiate and professional level.
"This is a great hire for our program," Zook said. "Randy is excited about returning back to Central Illinois, a place where he has spent many years as a player and a coach. As an Illinois native, he has great respect for the University of Illinois and its football tradition. He has had a tremendous amount of success coaching at all levels, which includes time in the Big Ten Conference and in the NFL."
Melvin's return to the Illinois marks his second stint in the Champaign-Urbana area. In 1982, he served as an assistant coach at Urbana High School. He was a three-year starter at Eastern Illinois where he graduated in 1982. Melvin and his wife Karen have two children, Lance and Malia.
