KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - The University of Illinois women's golf team could not maintain its third-place standing from Monday, falling instead to 13th place on Tuesday at the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate.
Senior Megan Godfrey ascended three places, but junior Meghan Naik dropped significantly, as the team followed an opening-round 308 with a second-round 317 and a third-round 315. Neither Nebraska's Elli Brown nor Campbell's Alejandra Shaw could claim medalist honors, falling from first to tied for fourth and tied for thirteenth place respectively after both shot closing-round 78s.
Monday's team leader, Campbell University, dropped to fifth place, and Coastal Carolina plummeted to 11th place after starting the day in second place. Idaho edged the host College of Charleston by one stroke and Nebraska by two strokes to top the 19-team field.
The Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate marks the end of the team's fall season. Competitive play resumes in March.
