The University of Illinois diver, Lisa Fish continued competition at the NCAA Diving Zone Championships on the campus of Indiana University this afternoon. Fish competed on the 3-meter board after yesterday's 1-meter competition.
"I am very proud of Lisa today," diving coach Billy McGowan. "The competition was really tough, but I liked how she was aggresive all weekend."
Fish placed 28th on the 3-meter board, with a score of 203.55. The senior's score wasn't enough to qualify for the finals, but on the last dive of her collegiate career she completed one of her better dives of the season. "She definitely finished her career on a high note," McGowan said. "Finishing with a dive that received all 6 and 6.5's is as good as she could have dove on her last dive of her collegiate career."
The senior has enjoyed a great career as an Illini, excelling both in the classroom and on the boards. Fish qualified for nationals three times and now owns two Illini records after her four years in Champaign. She shattered a 22 year-old record in the 3-meter (6 dives) with a score of 301.72 at the University of Michigan. Then broke the 5m platform mark with 329.00 points during an invitational in Hawaii in January.
After all her accolades in the pool, she has also been an outstanding student in the classroom. Fish has earned Academic All-Big Ten the past two years and seems to be well on her way to a third after completing the fall semester with 4.0 GPA.
